Originally, Porsche built the 718 RSK Spyder to replace the Porsche 550, and in a similar fashion to its predecessor, it was also an extremely successful racing machine. The original cars were (and still are) rare, highly coveted, and therefore very expensive, making the 718 an ideal candidate for some manufacturers to produce replicas (like the 550 Replicas) that combine fiberglass recreations of the 718 RSK body coupled to a VW chassis and powertrain. The result are sensibly priced, fast, nimble, and very good-looking race-car reproductions.
