The first generation of Pontiac LeMans was first introduced in 1961. The LeMans name was used to designate a trim level for the Pontiac Tempest in 1961 and 1962. Starting in 1963, the LeMans became its own model in the Pontiac lineup. The first generation LeMans was offered with inline 4 or V8 engines, and was available as a two door sedan or two door convertible. The first generation of Pontiac LeMans was built until 1963, and was replaced by the Second Generation Pontiac LeMans.
