The Panhard PL 17 was a car model produced from 1959 to 1965, developed under close supervision by Citroën and introduced as a successor to the Panhard Dyna Z. The initial four-door saloon was later joined by the Cabriolet in 1961 and by the station wagon in 1963. The car model’s name came from "PL" for Panhard et Levassor", with the "17" coming form adding some numbers together: 5 for the power rating (5CV), 6 for the number of seats, and 6 for the fuel consumption (6L / 100 Km). The Panhard PL 17 was front-engine, front-wheel-drive.
