The Nissan Z31 was an evolution of the Nissan Z-car that debuted in 1984. The Z31 was the chassis designation for the third generation of the Nissan Z, which was known as the Fairlady Z in Japan. This generation's production largely consisted of the 300ZX, but other variants such as the 200Z and 200ZR were also built, exclusively for the Japanese market. Although all Z31 Z-cars were offered in a liftback coupe body style, some were offered with T-tops while others were slicktops. Depending on the variant, a 2.0L V6 or 3.0L V6 filled the engine bay in these cars, with naturally aspirated or turbocharged options paired to manual and automatic transmissions. The most common variants were the Base 300ZX, and 300ZX Turbo, while other rarer versions included the 50th Anniversary and Shiro Special. Production of the Nissan Z31 Z-car ended in 1989, when it was replaced by the next generation Z32 Nissan Z-car.
