The third generation of Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 was introduced for the 1997 model year. The third generation of VR-4 saw the variant remain as the performance focused version of the Third Generation Mitsubishi 3000GT. This updated generation was only offered as a coupe, and featured a new front and rear spoiler. The final generation of VR-4 maintained its predecessor's 320hp 3.0L twin turbo V6 engine. Production of the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 ended in 1999 in North America, while its Japanese twin, the GTO MR remained in production until 2000.
