The third and final generation of Mitsubishi 3000GT was introduced for the 1997 model year. Originally, Mitsubishi had intended to unveil an updated model, but due to slowing sales, only introduced a mild facelift to the 3000GT. The third generation 3000GT was only offered as a coupe, with convertibles offered as in the generation. The most notable third generation variant was the performance focused VR-4. Mitsubishi ended sales of the 3000GT for North America in 1999, and Japan (known as GTO) in 2000.
