The first generation of the Mini Cooper S hardtop was introduced in 2001. The car's first generation was considered a three-door hatchback. The "S" variant offered customers a much more performance-focused car, both in power and handling. Customers could opt for a Dynamic Stability Control handling upgrade. The Cooper S featured a front-transversely mounted, supercharged 1.6L inline-four engine sending power through a six-speed manual transmission to the front wheels. The Mini S could produce about 165hp, and was offered with a range of JCW (John Cooper Works) tuning options. Also available as a Convertible, the first generation Cooper S hardtop was in production until 2006, when it was replaced by the Second Generation Mini Cooper S Hardtop.
