The third generation of Classic Mini was introduced in 1969. Known as the Mk III, the third generation Mini saw subtle changes to the styling, with concealed door hinges being the most noticeable update. In 1969, parent company British Leyland dropped the Austin and Morris names, now using Mini as a brand. Saloon, pickup, and van body styles were offered, as well as 848cc, 998cc, and 1275cc inline four engine options. The Mk III only offered a limited run of Cooper S models as performance variants before 1971, when the Cooper S was discontinued, although a wide range of Standard Variants were built. Production of the Mk III lasted until 1976, when the Mini Mk IV was unveiled.
