The Mercedes-Benz SL600 was a variant of the R129 SL-Class introduced for the 1994 model year after Mercedes changed their naming conventions during 1993 across all models, moving the model letters (SL) before the engine displacement (600), resulting in the 600SL becoming the SL600. The SL600 was powered by Mercedes' M120 V12 engine, which was a 6.0L unit that generated 389hp. This power was sent to the rear wheels via a 5 speed automatic transmission. Production of the R129 SL600 lasted until 2002, but the model series remained in production as part of the R230 SL-Class, as the R230 Mercedes-Benz SL600.
