Mercedes-Benz introduced their fifth generation S-Class for the 2007 model year. Known as the W221, this updated generation of the S-Class was the first to include a hybrid variant, the S400 Hybrid. Produced alongside the hybrid version were variants of the W221 with V6, V8, or V12 engines, as well as diesel versions. These variants included the S350, S320 CDI, S500 / S500 L, S550, S550 4MATIC, S450 4MATIC, S600, S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC. The fifth generation S-Class was offered in short or long wheelbase configurations, and was also available with 4Matic 4 wheel drive. The W221 featured the S63 AMG and the S65 AMG among notable performance-focused variants. Built until 2013, the W221 was replaced by the W222 S-Class.
