The Mercedes-Benz 400SEL was a variant of the W140 S-Class Sedan that debuted for the 1992 model year. The 400 SEL was built on the long wheel base for the W140 platform, and was powered by Mercedes' M119 E42 engine. This 4.2L V8 engine generated 275hp, which was sent to the rear wheels via a 4 or 5 speed automatic transmission. The 400SEL became known as the S420 Long in 1993 when Mercedes changed their naming conventions, although the car offered remained the same.
