The Mercedes-Benz 400SE was a variant of the W140 S-Class Sedan that debuted for the 1992 model year. The 400 SE was offered on the standard length W140 platform, and was powered by Mercedes' M119 E42 engine. This 4.2L V8 engine generated 275hp, which was sent to the rear wheels via a 4 or 5 speed automatic transmission. The 400SE became known as the S420 in 1993 when Mercedes changed their naming conventions, although the car offered remained the same.
