The Mercedes-Benz S500 Coupe, known as the 500SEC before 1993, was a variant of the C140 S-Class Coupe that was introduced for the 1994 model year. This series of rear wheel drive luxury coupes were powered by Mercedes' M119 E50 engine, which was a 5.0L V8 that generated 320hp. Sales of the W140 S500 Coupe ended in 1999 as the C140 CL-Class, when Mercedes decided to spin off the S-Class Coupes into their own series, known as the CL-Class.
