The top of the line variant for the W164 M-Class was the performance focused ML63 AMG 4MATIC. Introduced for the 2006 model year, the ML 63 AMG 4MATIC replaced the W163 ML55 AMG and featured a range of improvements to the drivetrain, suspension, and brakes in order to give the car increased performance. In addition to these upgrades, the ML63 was fitted with Mercedes-AMG's M156.980 engine, which was a 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 with an output of 510hp and 464 lb ft of torque. Power from this engine was sent to all four wheels via a 7 speed automatic transmission which was paired to Mercedes' 4MATIC all wheel drive system. The W164 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG was built until 2010, and would be replaced by the next generation W166 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG.
