The Mercedes-Benz 280CE was a variant of the C123 Coupe that debuted for the 1978 model year. This series of W123-based coupes were fitted with Mercedes' M110.984 powerplant, which was fuel-injected 2.8L inline six. This engine initially had an output of 177hp and 173 lb ft of torque, but a technical update for the 1979 model year saw power increase to 185hp and 177 lb ft of torque. Drive was sent to the rear wheels through manual and automatic transmission options. A total of 32,176 examples of the C123 Mercedes-Benz 280CE were built before production ended in 1985.
