The Mercedes-Benz 230CE was a variant of the C123 Coupe that was introduced for the 1981 model year. The 230CE, which had replaced the 230C, was powered by Mercedes' M102.980 engine, which was a 2.3L inline four that featured Bosch's K-Jetronic fuel-injection. This engine sent 136hp and 151 lb ft of torque to the rear wheels via manual or automatic transmission options. A total of 29,858 examples of the W123 Mercedes-Benz 230CE were built before the end of production in 1985, although the model series would continue life in the next generation of Mercedes-Benz E as the C124 Mercedes-Benz 230CE.
