Introduced for the 2015 model year, the Mercedes-AMG GT was launched in a two door coupe body style. The Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe was the first variant of the AMG GT available, and was powered by Mercedes-AMG's M178 engine. This initial launch version of the AMG GT featured 456hp and 443 lb ft of torque from its engine, but from 2017, power was upgraded to 469hp and 456 lb ft of torque, from the same 4.0L twin-turbo V8 powerplant. This engine was paired to AMG's SPEEDSHIFT dual clutch 7 speed automatic transmission to send power to the rear wheels.
