Marcos Engineering began in Wales in 1959. Founders Jem Marsh and Frank Costin combined parts of their last names to spell "Marcos." Early Marcos models drew inspiration from the founder's background in aviation and employed a wood chassis. The cars gained some popularity, but importing the vehicles to the U.S. and other obstacles forced the brand into closure in 1972. Jem Marsh bought the name and began production again in 1981. The renewed energy would not be enough, though, and by 2000 a Dutch firm, Eurotech, bought the racing side of the company, and in 2001 "Marcos Heritage" purchased the company's proprietary products to preserve the brand. Still, with a lack of resources, the Marcos name folded again in 2007.
