The Hispano-Suiza T-49 was a part of the "T" series that included its sibling, the T48. Based on the Hispano-Suiza H6, yet smaller, the T-49 featured many innovations for a car built in 1924. Among them was an overhead-cam 3.8L straight-six engine delivering 90hp. Accompanied by top-notch coach builders, Hispano-Suiza competed with Isotta-Fraschini, Rolls-Royce, and Bugatti. By 1936 T-49 production stopped to make way for new models such as the Hispano-Suiza J12.
