Hanomag, which was short for Hannoversche Maschinenbau AG (Hanover Mechanical Engineering Company), was a German manufacturer that traces its roots to 1835. Before it was known as Hanomag, the company initially built steam engines, before branching out into farm machines and locomotives. In 1871, the company officially changed its name to Hanomag, before entering road vehicle production in 1905. The company built a wide range of transport and military equipment, including cars, tractors, and construction machinery. Over the years, Hanomag consolidated operations, dropping automotive and locomotive production before focusing on heavy machinery. In 1989 Hanomag was purchased by Komatsu, becoming a full subsidiary.
