The third generation of Ford Ranchero was introduced for the 1966 model year. This generation of Ranchero was based on the Ford Fairlane, and continued to be offered in the distinct coupe utility (pickup) body style. A 200ci inline six was the standard engine, while a few V8 engine options were offered. For 1966, a 2-barrel carbureted 289ci V8 (C-Code), and a 4-barrel carbureted 289ci V8 (A-Code) comprised of the V8s, while for 1967, the C-Code 289ci V8 continued, while two versions of a 390ci V8 were introduced: the 2-barrel carbureted 390 V8 (H-Code) and the 4-barrel carbureted 390 V8, with 270hp and 320hp respectively. Drive from the engine was sent to the rear wheels through a 3 or 4 speed manual transmission, or an optional 3 speed automatic transmission. Production of the 3rd Gen Ranchero ended in 1967, when the 4th Gen Ford Ranchero debuted.
