The first generation of the Ford Expedition debuted for the 1997 model year. These full-size SUVs were offered in a four door body, with both rear and all wheel drive versions. A 4.6L V8 engine was standard, while a 5.4L V8 was offered as an option, with a 4 speed automatic as the only transmission. The two versions available were the standard XLT and the more luxurious Eddie Bauer. Production of the 1st Gen Expedition ended in 2002 when it was replaced by the 2nd Gen Ford Expedition.
