The Excelsior Motor Company was a British motorcycle and automotive manufacturer that traces its roots to a bicycle company that was founded in 1876. The Excelsior Motor Co began motorcycle operations in 1874, making it Britain's first motorcycle maker. Due to possible confusion with the American Excelsior Motor Manufacturing & Supply Company, Excelsior commonly referred to themselves as "British Excelsior." In addition to their wide range of motorcycles, Excelsior also built a range of automobiles which sold under the Bayliss-Thomas brand, which lasted from 1920 until 1931. The Excelsior Motor Company continued production of their motorcycles until 1964 before the company dissolved in 1965.
