The Ducati Desmosedici was a Racing motorcycle made by Ducati for MotoGP, debuting in 2003. The Desmosedici was powered by a 990cc desmodromic V4 engine. Racing motorcycles from 2007 (named GP7 based on the GP Race and the competing year number) until 2011 (GP11) were powered by a 799cc desmodromic V4 engine because rules were changed. From 2012, rules changed again allowing the 990cc engine to be used. In 2006 Ducati made a short production run of 1,500 street-legal variants named Desmosedici RR carrying the 990cc power plant. The Ducati Desmosedici ended production in 2009.
