The third generation of Dodge Ram was introduced for the 2002 model year. The third generation Ram was offered in light (1500), medium (2500), or heavy (3500) variants, available with a range of standard, quad, or mega cabs. A selection of diesel inline six engines, or gasoline V6, V8, and V10 units were offered, including the 8.3L Viper V10 used for the Ram SRT-10 performance variant. Production of the third generation Ram 1500 (light duty) ended in 2008, but production of the medium and heavy duty variants were built until 2009, when the Fourth Generation Dodge Ram was introduced.
