The 66 was introduced by DAF in 1972. This rear wheel drive car was available as a 2 door coupe or familiar station wagon. Its continuously variable automatic transmission was innovative for its time because it did not required traditional gears and offered a smooth ride. The 66 had a 1.1L inline four engine in its base model, but in the Marathon, the sportier version, its engine was a 1.3 inline four. The DAF 66 was produced until 1975 when it was lightly modified, and licensed by Volvo to create the Volvo 66.
