The Teledyne Continental Cheetah was created as Teledyne's submission for the Army's High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) contract. Although Teledyne eventually lost the contract to the AM General Humvee, 11 prototypes of the Cheetah were built. These rugged trucks were powered by a diesel engine that powered the rear or all four wheels.
