The third generation of Chrysler New Yorker was introduced for the 1949 model year, and was the top full size offering during its production. Body styles available included sedan, coupe, two door hardtop, Town & Country station wagon, and convertible. Initially, the third generation New Yorker was fitted with Chrysler's 5.3L 'Spitfire' inline eight engine, but in 1951, the new 5.4L 'Fireball' V8 engine option was added to the range. Production of the third generation New Yorker ended in 1954 with the introduction of the Fourth Generation Chrysler New Yorker.
