The First Generation of Colorado came to market in 2004 as the launch generation for the Chevrolet Colorado. The Colorado and its sibling, the GMC Canyon, are based on the GMT355 multipurpose chassis. A wide variety of engines have been available during the production of the 1st Gen Colorado, ranging from a 2.8L gasoline inline four to a 5.3L V8 (for the 2010+ models); in addition, diesel engines were also offered with a 2.5L or 3.0L to choose from. Automatic and manual transmissions existed with either 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains. Production of the first generation Colorado came to an end in 2014 when the 2nd Gen Colorado was launched.
