The Chevrolet C1500 was a variant of the 4th Gen Chevrolet C/K that debuted for the 1988 model year. Whereas for previous generations of the C/K, Chevrolet had used C10, C20, and C30 to designate their rear wheel drive 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton trucks, the 4th Gen C/K introduced a new naming system that replaced the C10 with the C1500. The 1/2 ton, rear wheel drive C1500 was available with a selection of engines that included a standard 4.3L V6, alongside optional gasoline or diesel V8 units. These engines were paired with manual or automatic transmissions. Both a short (6.5 feet) and long (8 feet) truck bed were available, with either the sleek Fleetside or new Sportside bedside. The Sportside bed replaced the previous Stepside bed and was only available on the 6.5 foot bed. The C1500 was also offered in a range of trims, including the top of the line Silverado. As well as trims, a few notable variants of the C1500 were built, including the 454SS and the 1993 Indy 500 Pace Truck. Production of the 4th Gen Chevrolet C1500 ended in 1999, when the new Chevrolet Silverado trucks were introduced.
