The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z10 is a variant of the 1st Generation Camaro. The RPO Z10 Camaros were very similar to Z11 '69 Camaro Indy Pace Cars and came as a white RS/SS with orange stripes, and the ZL-2 (cowl) hood, front and rear spoilers, but only as a hardtop. While most of these "pace car hardtops" came with a white standard interior it was also available with a black standard, black deluxe, black houndstooth, and ivory houndstooth interior. When the 1969 Indy 500 Pace cars were seen on TV, with the RS hide-away headlights, white body and bright orange stripes many buyers across the country flocked to dealerships to get their very own. Chevrolet recognized the Z11 was welcomed much more in the southwest, and this consumer excitement led to the development of the RPO Z10. Although not associated with the Indianapolis 500, these hardtop versions mirrored the pace cars in almost every way. These special edition cars were also available with all the SS engine options of a 350ci V8 or 396ci V8, mated to a manual 3, Muncie 4 speed, 2 or 3 speed automatics with some being column shift.
