The Chalmers Motor Company, often referred to simply as Chalmers, was an American automotive manufacturer that began operations in 1908. Chalmers Motor Company was initially established as the Chalmers-Detroit Motor Company, when Hugh Chalmers took a controlling interest in the Thomas Motor Company's Thomas-Detroit brand. This new company focused on crafting high end vehicles, eventually creating models such as the Thirty and the Forty. Although the company achieved some success, financial difficulties plagued Chalmers for most of its existence. These problems eventually saw the company acquired by Chrysler, with the Chalmers name no longer used.
