When the BSA motorcycle Competition Department disbanded in 1971, Alan Clues saw his opportunity, purchased all the available factory parts, and created a new motorcycle company, Clews Competition Machines. CCM, based in Bolton, England, manufactured various models over its history using different engine suppliers, including; Rotax, Suzuki, BMW, and Kymco. They produced motorcycles for the military and in motorsports winning ACU British Indoor Motocross Championship in 2010. In 2014 the CCM GP450 was introduced as a middleweight adventure motorcycle, and it featured a Bond-Lite aluminum frame. 2016 saw a new model with exposed T45 carbon steel for a hand-assembled aesthetic ushering in a new bespoke ethos. Limited edition variants of the 2016 model, the Spitfire, have been produced. Alan Clues's son, a champion motocross racer himself, is now at the company's helm after Alan Clues' death in 2018. The cult-like brand continues to release and support race-inspired motorcycles for the street.
