Cannondale is an American bicycle manufacturer that traces its roots to 1971. In 1997, the company was trying to expand and build off its namesake with the idea of revolutionizing the motocross motorcycle market. The company had new designs for a bike known as the X400 that left the motocross world with high expectations. Unfortunately the advanced design required heavy re-engineering and had a heavy cost that eventually led to the bankruptcy of Cannondale in 2003. The short-lived motorcycle division of Cannondale was only in production from 2001 to 2003, before the division was sold to ATK Motorcycles and the Cannondale name was dropped, although the bicycle brand was acquired separately and still continues production.
