The first generation of Buick Special was introduced for the 1936 model year. The Special was Buick's entry level model, and was derived from the Buick Series 40. The first generation Special was available as a sedan, coupe, convertible, and station wagon, and was offered with a 3.8L or 4.1L inline eight engine. The first generation Special was in production until 1949 and was replaced by the Second Generation Buick Special.
