The Buick Gran Sport was introduced for the 1967 model year. The Gran Sport name had been a performance variant of the Buick Skylark, but in 1967, it was spun off into its own model. The Gran Sport, or GS, was a series of coupes and convertibles fitted with performance tuned V8 engines. The GS featured notable variants such as the GS Stage 2, GSX, and GSX Stage 1. The Buick Gran Sport was in production until 1972. A Gran Sport variant of the Buick Century was produced from 1973 to 1975.
