The coupe is most well known, and perhaps the most iconic body style of the legendary BMW E30 M3. When the M3 was launched, the coupe was the only available body style. As the M3 coupe was originally created to be a homologation special created to compete in the German DTM racing series, it featured a vastly different body from the standard E30 3 Series. Like its Convertible sibling, the M3 coupe was powered by BMW's S14 inline four engine that was paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox sending drive to the rear wheels. Depending on the market, these engines were available with a catalytic converter (192hp), or without (200hp). For the 1990 model year, an uprated 215hp version of the S14 was introduced. The E30 BMW M3 Coupe was replaced by the E36 BMW M3.
