The Audi A3 was redesigned again for the 2004 model year, resulting in the Second Generation of A3. The 2nd Gen A3 was still available in 3 and 5-door (Sportback) hatchback variants, with a cabriolet body style being the new introduction. Although built in various body styles, only the 5-door A3 was available in North America. Along with the redesign, the 2nd Gen A3 was available with inline-four, inline-five, or VR6 engines, as well as diesel options. The well-tuned S3 and RS3 variants with more performance added excitement to the model range. Manual, automatic, and dual-clutch automatic gearboxes were available on second-generation cars. Production of the 2nd Gen Audi A3 lasted until 2013, before being replaced by the Third Generation Audi A3.
