The first generation Mercury Montclair was introduced for the 1955 model year. The first generation Montclair was the top model for the 1955 and 1956 model years until the introduction of the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser. The Montclair was offered as a coupe, sedan, or convertible, and was powered by a range of V8 engines. A notable Montclair variant, the Sun Valley, featured a clear plexiglass roof over the front half of the cabin. Production of the first generation Montclair ended in 1958, and was replaced by the Second Generation Mercury Montclair. Canadian versions of the Montclair were known as Monarch Lucerne.
