The Mazda RX-7 Base Model for the FD Generation was available between 1993 and 1995 in the US and select markets except Japan. Like the rest of the FD range, the base model was powered by Mazda's 1.3L 13B rotary twin-turbo engine capable of 255hp, driving power to the rear via a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional (and far less common) automatic. The base model came standard with a black cloth interior, or optional leather, a basic stereo system, and came without a sunroof. The base model RX-7 was frequently modified by dealers (or aftermarket) to feature some of the characteristics or the RX-7 R1/R2 variant, such as front and rear spoilers. The JDM market equivalent was known as the Type S or Touring S.
