In 2018, after completing the missing six Lightweight E-Types and the nine XKSS, Jaguar Classic re-started production of the iconic Jaguar D-Type. In 1955, Jaguar intended to build 100 D-Types, of which only 75 were completed and the remaining 25 were built as XKSS (only 16 were made before a fire destroyed the possibility of producing the remaining 9). 25 short of the original plans, Jaguar decided to produce these 25 missing D-Types built to authentic and original specifications. Customers for these continuation examples were allowed to choose from the long-nose or short-nose specifications.
