The second generation Ford F-Series 1st Gen Heavy-Duty was a 1-ton or greater regular cab truck sold as a platform/stake with a cab, cowl, cab over engine (COE), or an open chassis. Cabs and interiors followed the updates made across the F-Series line for 1952. Powerplants included an inline flathead six-cylinder and a flathead V8 mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Different size ratings were given based on model variants, including F-4 (light-duty commercial), F-5/F-6 (medium-duty), and the F-7/F-8 as commercial trucks. They featured larger tires, additional leaf springs in the suspension, and a dual rear wheel option was available, increasing payload respectively. The "Big Job" brand name was utilized for heavy-duty trucks, and these models continued on for the 2nd Gen F-Series trucks beginning with F as before but following the new "F-400" structure.
