The winter may be upon us, but the classic car market was HOT in October! The month gave us a view of the “new normal” for auctions – with some events remaining 100% online, and others finding their stride in a new in-person/online hybrid format. New events, and previously postponed events, brought us some impressive stats: Over $180 million in sales*, up 55% from $116.7 million in October 2019, and an average sale that was 47% higher than a year ago.
Of course, these results got a boost from the mammoth RM Sotheby’s Elkhart Collection sale, bringing in just over $43 million in sales from what has to be one of the finest collections in the country. And just in case that wasn’t enough, they topped it off with a $14.8 million sale of a trio of truly unique Alfa Romeo concept cars.
Note: Stats quoted in this post are as of October 31, 2020 @ 5pm eastern.
Top Sales
Apart from the trio of Alfa Romeo concept cars, topping the charts was this amazing 2017 Pagani Huayra Roadster sold at Mecum Dallas.
