In April 2023, the number of cars sold at auction increased by 13% compared to the same period in the previous year. However, the total Dollar Volume generated from those sales remained steady, resulting from a decline in the Average Price and Sell-through rate. Although the Market remains highly active, we’re witnessing a plateau in growth compared to the significant surge experienced over the past 2 years.

With 56% of the Dollar Volume and 62% of the Sold Listings attributed to them, it's evident that Online auctions continue to be a force to be reckoned with. On the other hand, Live auctions boasted a higher Average Price and Sell-through Rate, which is worth noting when deciding on the most suitable auction format for selling or buying your next specialty car. Top 10 Sales in April 2023

When it comes to Top Sales, Live auctions continue to top the charts – with Mecum taking the top slot with a 300SL Gullwing that has changed hands 3 times in the past 15 months. We also saw 2 online auctions in the Top 10 – both from Bring a Trailer – including a low-mileage Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina which sold for over $190k over it's last sale price 5 years ago.
