Introduced in 1956, the Volvo 121, also called the Volvo Amazon, was manufactured until 1970. Was originally called "Amason" after the Greek mythological female warriors. The name was changed to "Amazon" for markets outside of Sweden due to a trademark dispute. The Volvo 121 had a variety of engines, including the 1.6L from 1956 to 1961, the 1.8L from 1961 to 1968 and the 2.0L engine from 1968 to 1970. It also offered manual and automatic transmission options and safety innovations, being one of the first cars to feature front seat belts as standard equipment.
