For the 1970 model year, Volvo renamed the 1800S, creating the 1800E. This updated model of the Volvo 1800 saw the introduction of fuel injection, which caused the change in the model name to 1800E (E is short for Einspritz, German for 'fuel-injected"). The 1800E was fitted with a fuel-injected 2.0L inline four engine, and was also fitted with four wheel disc brakes. Production of the 1800E ended in 1972, and the model was replaced by the Volvo 1800ES.
