Volkswagen introduced their fouth generation of Type 2 in 1990. The fourth generation, known as the T4, saw the Type 2 renamed the Transporter. While still part of the Type 2 lineage, the newly named Transporter (EuroVan in North America), featured the model's first front mounted engine. The T4 was offered in a variety of passenger and commercial configurations, such as the versatile Eurovan passenger van, the all-wheel drive Eurovan Syncro, the Eurovan MV. The Type 2 T4 included notable camper conversion companies like Westfalia, Winnebago, Compass, Bilbo and Dehler. The T4 generation was built until 2003 when it was replaced by the T5 Transporter.
