The first generation of Volkswagen Scirocco was introduced in 1974. Known as the Type 1, the first generation Scirocco was styled by the legendary Giorgetto Guigiaro and was powered by a variety of inline 4 engines. The most notable Type 1 variant was the Scirocco GTi, which was introduced in 1976. Built until 1981, the Type 1 was replaced by the second generation Scirocco Type 2.
