The third generation Volkswagen Golf was available starting in the 1992 model year. The Mk3 Golf was larger than its predecessor, yet maintained the same wheelbase. The Golf formula was unchanged, with an inline 4 engine at the front driving the front wheels. The Mk3 is the first Golf to feature Volkswagen's VR6 engine. The most notable Mk3 variants are the Mk3 GTI, Mk3 VR6, Mk3 GTD. The Mk3 was replaced by the Mk4 Golf.
