The Tesla Model S is a family of full size electric cars that was introduced for the 2013 model year. Offered as a four door liftback sedan, the Model S was created so Tesla could compete with the top established luxury car manufacturers, such as Mercedes-Benz and BMW. The Model S was available in both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive configurations, with rear wheel drive variant featuring one rear mounted electric motor as opposed to the all wheel drive version, which was labeled 'D,' for dual-motor (front and rear motors). A number of range options for the battery was also offered, ranging from 60kWh (60, 60D) to 100kWh (100D, P100D).
